Special Initiatives: Globally Minded Educators

Teacher Education Leadership at CGU has expanded the definition of a quality teacher to include a teacher's intercultural competency and global awareness. Put simply: CGU recognizes that quality teachers are able to build meaningful relationships with people different from themselves, are able to contribute to the development of pluralistic civic societies, and are able to utilize current global issues to frame and illuminate their academic subjects...and in doing so help their students become globally aware and engaged citizens.

CGU has advanced these ideas through a number of channels:

• International Partnerships
• The Teaching Excellence & Achievement (TEA) Program
• GECC: The Global Educators Collaborative of Claremont
• Geo(graphically)-Far Options for teachers "clearing" their Preliminary California Credential
• Project VOICE: Vietnam, an Opportunity for Inter-Cultural Education (A Fulbright-Hays Group Travel Program)
• Presenting at International Conferences
