In addition to the M.A. Credential Program in Teacher Education, the Master of Arts prepares individuals to staff professional, entry-level and middle management positions in academic, administrative, institutional, public policy, and student affairs offices of two-and four-year colleges and universities, multi-campus systems, foundations, and government agencies. The M.A. program works best for individuals who have had some work experience.
The School of Educational Studies offers several Master of Arts Programs:
- Teacher Education Internship Program (M.A./Credential) consisting of 36 units.
- Master of Arts in Education, a 30 unit program
- Master of Arts in Education with special emphasis on higher education and students affairs, a 30 unit program.
- Combined Teaching Credential with M.A. in History or Math
- Other Emphases
Master of Arts in Education - 30-unit program
The M.A. is earned by:
- Completing 30 semester units (minimum) of course work (6 semester units may be transferred from prior graduate work)
- A written thesis or critique
- All requirements must be completed within five calendar years
M.A. Emphases:
Combined Teaching Credential and Dual M.A. in History or Math
Because of the flexibility of our graduate institutions, it is possible to receive a master's degree in a subject other than education with additional coursework while pursuing the state teaching credential. While a master's degree in Mathematics or History are two of the most popular options, possibilities exist in other disciplines.
