The strategy of the organization is to stimulate thinking by starting with a number of short presentations on issues and different perspectives during the first morning. That afternoon several important general issues will be gone into in more depth. On the second morning, possible lessons from Europe and other areas will be discussed and the similarities and differences in major issues facing different regions highlighted. The last afternoon will then focus on issues in and implications of the previous discussions for integration in Asia and direction for future research then will be discussed. A basic premise of the workshop is that there is considerable scope for fruitful interchange about the political economy of regional integration among researchers with expertise in different theoretical approaches or perspectives, different regions, and different issue areas. We plan to consider our present state of knowledge based on these perspectives, and discuss implications for policy and future research priorities.
