Preparing Future Faculty &
Learning Communities Program

Are you interested in pursuing an academic career?
The Preparing Future Faculty and Learning Communities Program is part of a national movement to transform the way graduate students are prepared for their careers as professors. Through workshops, learning communities, for-credit courses, fellowships, professional practica, teaching labs, and consultations, Claremont Graduate University Students have the opportunity to develop course and teaching portfolios as well as the skills and knowledge necessary to teach at a variety of higher education institutions. If a student actively participates in Preparing Future Faculty and Learning Communities activities throughout their graduate education career, they should be able to do the following:
- Develop a curriculum for a course (s)he intends to teach including course and lesson objectives, appropriate learning activities, and evaluation of learning
- Practice teaching using a variety of strategies and technologies that enhance student learning
- Understand faculty roles and responsibilities, including teaching, learning, and service
- Develop a teaching portfolio
We recommend that first-year and second-year graduate students participate in the Professional Development Practicum to get started on the elements of an academic career. The Practicum and begins in September and meets every other week. Register here.
More advanced students can take part in the PFF Fellows Program, which is a Faculty Learning Community for CGU students only. Fellows are selected each spring for the following academic year. The application period for the 2009-20010 PFF Fellows Program will now begin in February 2009.
The PFF Director provides Individual Consulting for CGU students who are currently teaching or who are interested in applying for academic positions in the near future. Please feel free to contact us with any questions.
