Some tips:

  1. Be sure that your anti-virus software is enabled and you have installed the latest virus definition file!
  2. Never connect any USB device, other than your own, without first being sure that your anti-virus software is enabled and you have installed the latest virus definition file! Many malicious viruses are written to reside on external USB devices, and automatically run when connected to a computer.
  3. Do not open email attachments unless you are sure the sender can be trusted.
  1. Quick mailbox cleanup tips:
    • Delete emails in the “Sent Mail” folder
    • Delete emails in the “Deleted Items” folder
    • Save file attachments to local drive and delete email.
  2. Email storage limits:
    • 140 MB receive a warning message
    • 145 MB restricted from sending emails
    • 150 MB restricted from sending or receiving emails
  3. Simple things that you can do to prevent spam:
    • Do NOT use your CGU email account to sign up for online shopping accounts, promotions, give-aways, etc. Create a email address using a free service (like Gmail or Yahoo!), and used that account exclusively for online purchases. (Email addresses are frequently sold or given to other companies, often times in spite the fact that a privacy policy states that they will not be sold or given away).
    • Do NOT put your email address on a web page. (Spammers use crawlers or bots to search web pages and harvest addresses for their lists).

Password policy for students:
  • Minimum characters:  6
  • Unique passwords:  6  (password cannot be a repeat of your last 6 passwords)
