Open Position: Tenured Associate or Full Professorship

The School of Mathematical Sciences (SMS) at Claremont Graduate University (CGU) invites applications for a tenured associate or full professorship in applied mathematics.  Candidates must have expertise in one or more of the following or related areas: probability, statistics or biostatistics, operations research, mathematical finance, biomathematics, modeling of industrial problems, computational geometric modeling, scientific computing, and computational biology.   The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses that serve several of these areas. Applications from women and underrepresented minorities are particularly encouraged and will be given strong consideration.

Nestled in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains about 35 miles east of Los Angeles, CGU is a member of the Claremont Colleges, a consortium that includes Harvey Mudd, Pomona, Claremont McKenna, Pitzer, and Scripps Colleges, and the Keck Graduate Institute of Applied Life Sciences.  Many professors at these institutions collaborate in teaching and research at CGU. In addition to MS and PhD degrees in Mathematics, our school also offers a number of innovative joint degrees with partner institutions in Financial Engineering, Computational Science, Engineering and Industrial Applied Mathematics and Computational/Systems Biology. We also have a strong tradition in modeling of industrial problems through our so-called Math Clinics, which are year-long projects sponsored by industry on which a team of students work with a faculty advisor and an industrial liaison. Additional information about our school can be found at http://www.cgu.edu/math/5181.asp.

An earned doctorate in mathematics or in an applied science or engineering field is required. Applicants must also possess strong track records in both research and teaching. Evidence of excellence in teaching would strengthen the application. Interested applicants should electronically submit their cover letter, curriculum vitae, research plan and teaching philosophy via http:/www.mathjobs.org.

The candidates must also arrange for three letters of reference to be submitted online via “mathjobs” as well as provide names and contact information for three to five additional references. Review of applications will begin in the Fall of 2007 and continue until the position is filled.
