John W. Bachmann joined the Claremont Graduate University Board of Trustees in 1999. Prior to that, Bachmann served as chair of the Drucker School’s Board of Visitors since fall 1992. He became involved with the Drucker School because of his respect for Peter Drucker, who had worked closely with Edward Jones.

Bachmann has spent his career with Edward Jones & Co., starting there as a researcher in 1962. Bachmann retired from Edward Jones as managing partner in 2004 but remained at Edward Jones as a senior partner. Prior to his current role as senior partner, Bachmann served as managing partner of Edward Jones beginning in 1980, when he succeeded Edward D. “Ted” Jones Jr. During Bachmann’s tenure as managing partner, Edward Jones grew from 240 offices in 28 states to more than 9,000 offices throughout the United States, with affiliates in Canada and the United Kingdom. Under his leadership, Edward Jones twice topped Fortune magazine’s list of “Best Companies To Work For.”

Bachmann grew up in Salem, Illinois. He received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana, and an MBA in Finance from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Bachmann is the recipient of an honorary Doctor of Laws from Wabash College and an honorary Doctor of Arts from the University of Missouri, St. Louis.
