What do data science and America’s pastime have in common? A lot more than you would think. In his talk, Scott Powers will describe what the average day looks like for quantitative analysts working in baseball, and how they use data to resolve problems in player evaluation, player development, and in-game strategy. Powers will present three interactive examples of decisions faced by Major League Baseball teams during the season and discuss how data is leveraged to improve the decision-making process. The talk will be held on Wednesday, November 13, from 2:30–3:45 pm in Burkle 16. All Claremont Colleges students are welcome. RSVP on Handshake at https://bit.ly/33XONVV.
