CGU Launches the Claremont Flourishing Center to Advance the Science of Happiness
At Claremont Graduate University, we believe that a thriving academic community begins with well-being. That’s why we’re proud to announce the launch of the Claremont Flourishing Center (CFC), a new initiative dedicated to promoting happiness and human flourishing through research, education, and engagement.
The Claremont Flourishing Center was made possible through a generous partnership with the Rekhi Foundation for Happiness, founded by Dr. Satinder Rekhi and Harpreet Rekhi. With 65 university centers worldwide, the Rekhi Foundation is a global leader in advancing well-being as a pathway to individual and societal success. Together, we’re creating a hub where the science of happiness meets practical, accessible solutions for positive change.
Led by CGU Distinguished University Professor Stewart I. Donaldson, the CFC will support the local and global community through a range of free events and programs. These include seminars and workshops on the latest research in positive psychology, a certification program to train educators and leaders in well-being strategies, and ongoing support for the Western Positive Psychology Association (WPPA) annual conference.
“The launch of the Claremont Flourishing Center marks a transformative step in integrating happiness and positive psychology into the core of our academic and campus life,” said CGU President Michelle Bligh. “Our partnership with the Rekhi Foundation will not only impact our university but also contribute to the global movement for human flourishing.”
The CFC is committed to making research publicly available and ensuring that the tools for flourishing are accessible to everyone. As we develop and share these strategies, we invite collaboration from other centers, foundations, and organizations who share our mission.
“Happy people are more successful than the other way around — happiness first, and the rest will follow,” says Dr. Rekhi, summarizing the foundation’s guiding philosophy.
This initiative reflects CGU’s commitment to transdisciplinary impact and to preparing students to lead positive, transformative change in the world. By incorporating the science of happiness into the fabric of university life, we are creating space for deeper connection, greater purpose, and long-term well-being across all areas of study and leadership.
