Drucker Student Spotlight: Kaitlin Kiesel on Leadership, Science, and Purpose
The Drucker School of Management has always dedicated itself to educating future business leaders and developing thoughtful, values-driven individuals who aim to lead with purpose. Kaitlin Kiesel, a full-time MBA student from San Mateo, California, is a prime example of Drucker’s mission. With a background in biology, experience as a collegiate athlete, and aspirations in the pharmaceutical and skincare industries, Kaitlin brings a unique blend of discipline, curiosity, and compassion to her MBA journey.
Kaitlin came to Drucker in search of more than a traditional business education. “I wanted a program that emphasized leadership and values, not just technical skills,” she said. “Drucker has helped me align my personal strengths with my professional goals.”
That alignment has translated into newfound confidence and sharper decision-making skills. Kaitlin has embraced Drucker’s interdisciplinary and collaborative environment, where each project challenges her to think about impact beyond the bottom line.
“Every course has pushed me to see how business can be a force for good, not just for profit.”
Drawing on her past as a college softball player, Kaitlin reflects that the grit and teamwork she learned on the field helps her immensely in collaborative environments. “Athletics taught me how to lead under pressure and stay resilient. Those lessons continue to serve me in business.”
Drucker’s belief that management is about human beings has always resonated deeply with Kaitlin and has fundamentally shifted her approach to leadership. “I’ve learned to lead with empathy and to center people in every decision.” She said. “Leadership isn’t about control, it’s about service.”
The school’s emphasis on systems thinking has also reshaped how Kaitlin approaches problem-solving. “I’ve learned to zoom out, look at the full system, and consider long-term outcomes. It’s helped me become a more strategic and intentional leader.”
Kaitlin’s ultimate goal? To blend science, ethics, and innovation to try and launch a medical-grade skincare brand rooted in transparency and impact. Her education at Drucker is laying the foundation to make that dream a reality.
“The strategic thinking and human-centered leadership I’ve learned here are exactly what I need to build something meaningful.”
When asked what she wants to be remembered for, Kaitlin doesn’t hesitate: “I want to be known for taking bold steps to follow my passions, and for helping others do the same.”
Kaitlin’s journey reminds us that leadership is not a fixed concept, but a continuous evolution shaped by one’s experiences, mentors, and values. Kaitlin represents the kind of future leader Drucker strives to develop: Thoughtful, ambitious, and committed to making a difference.
