Finance with a Human Touch
At the Drucker School of Management, leadership is taught not as a position of authority but as a responsibility to others. For MBA student and Senior Associate at BPM, Mathew Ng, that philosophy has been transformative.
Balancing graduate study with a demanding role in finance, Mathew isn’t waiting for a diploma to lead; he’s already putting Drucker’s principles into action.
“The Drucker School showed me how this degree could actually change how I think, how I lead, and how I impact others”
“Classroom discussions directly inform how I approach my work,” Matthew says. “I see the connection between what I’m learning and how I manage tasks, make decisions, and collaborate with my team.”
When Mathew first began exploring MBA programs, his focus was on a credential. “At first, it was about the letters behind my name,” Matthew admits. “But the Drucker School showed me how this degree could actually change how I think, how I lead, and how I impact others.”
Earlier this year, Matthew represented Drucker in the CFA Institute Research Challenge, a high-stakes finance case competition judged by industry professionals. The experience sharpened his technical abilities while deepening his commitment to leading with both strategy and empathy.
When asked which Drucker principle has influenced him most, he replied without hesitation: “Employee orientation. It’s something I apply every day,” Matthew says.
Mentoring new associates or advocating for stronger training and flexibility, Mathew is determined to lead in a way that centers people, not just performance.
That commitment shows up in more places than his work. In his free time, Mathew volunteers with local youth groups, helping young people build confidence and skills.
“It’s some of the most rewarding work I do,”
Looking ahead, Mathew hopes to join the C-suite of a company where he take a more proactive role in building an inclusive and supportive corporate culture. As for his long-term goals, Matthew sees himself pushing to modernize the way we see leadership in finance — not just with better systems, but with more humanity.
Mathew found more than an education at the Drucker School. He found a new lens for leadership, one that blends strategic thinking with compassion, ambition with purpose.
