Anna Gonzalez is director of the student affairs and educational justice program at CGU and vice president of student affairs and dean of students at Harvey Mudd College. With expertise in leading successful student affairs operations, she is committed to fostering greater diversity and inclusion in areas she oversees including residential life, student activities, career services, health and wellness, institutional diversity, and community engagement.

Gonzalez was a founding faculty member and program director for the master’s program in student affairs administration for Lewis & Clark College’s Graduate School of Counseling and Education. She has 25 years of experience in higher education, having worked at the University of California Irvine, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. During those years, she also served as chief student affairs officer for four voyages of the Semester at Sea Program.

The quality of her leadership has been recognized on a national level with two prestigious awards, NASPA’s Pillar of the Profession and the Scott Goodnight Award for Outstanding Dean. She has served on a number of local and national boards, including the NASPA National Board of Directors, Junior League of Champaign-Urbana, and Youth, Rights, and Justice of the State of Oregon. Her most recent publication (2018) is the book Transformational Encounters: Shaping Diverse College and University Leaders.

As a first-generation U.S. college student who immigrated to this country at the age of 10, she knows first hand the role higher education plays in transforming communities. Through partnerships with on- and off-campus stakeholders, Gonzalez is guided by the vision of advancing the educational mission of higher education, creating an accessible educational experience for all individuals, and helping students to become global leaders of the 21st century.
