Prior to joining CGU’s Department of Teacher Education, Sheila Mateo has been in public education in various settings for over 15 years. She has served as a special education department chair for three years, served as an induction mentor and teacher coach. She has taught grades preschool through high school as a mild/moderate Education Specialist and has conducted various assessments and developed curriculum to meet student need. She has experience as an ELA co-teacher at the secondary level for four years and has experience as a Special Education Program Specialist at the district level. While at CGU as a Special Education Coordinator and Advisor, she is concurrently in the position as an Adjunct Child Development Professor at two local community colleges.
Sheila received her bachelor’s degree in Communicative Disorders from California State University Long Beach and later continued her education at the University of La Verne where she received her master’s in child development and Mild/Moderate Education Specialist Teaching Credential. She further continued her education to learn more about school and its systems and received her second master’s degree in educational leadership with her Preliminary Administrative Credential from Concordia University, Irvine.
Sheila values her faith and strong support from her family, close friends and colleagues as a clear indicator of who she has become today. Her culture and background as a Filipino/Chinese female have also pushed her to work hard to find her wayfinding journey, in which she hopes to give back to her students, teachers and to the community.
