The GSC: Updates and Upcoming Events
While the Graduate Student Council elections for the 2016–2017 academic year were a rough start for this year’s council, they’ve given us no reason to complain. On top of the masquerade ball, karaoke nights, and graduate student appreciation week, the GSC has also worked to improve student relations and involvement on campus activities.
President Marquisha Spencer has made special efforts to let her constituents know she wants to hear their voices.
A couple weeks ago, on April 17, we received the results of the election for the 2017–2018 academic year: Marquisha Spencer will continue to serve as GSC president; Sean Dixon will return to the council (after a one-year hiatus) to serve as GSC vice president; and Chris Chen will continue in his role as secretary.
The GSC has also let us know that they are still looking for a treasurer. An additional election will be held, and interested candidates are encouraged to send their name to the GSC Elections Chair Benjamin Cowan by Thursday, May 4. The voting for this position will occur Friday May 5 at noon in the Board of Trustees room during the GSC meeting. The email from the GSC has said that “all candidates should prepare a brief statement to the council and be prepared to answer questions.”
Later that day, Friday, May 5, the GSC (along with the newly appointed treasurer) will put on their annual End of the Year Party. The party will last from 6:00 to 11:00 pm in the DesCombes Quad outside of Hagelbarger’s. They’ll have a DJ, bounce house, taco truck, drinks, and more. So set your final papers aside for a night and come join the council for the best event of the year.
