CGU’s School of Educational Studies 2024 Bowen Lecture

Join the School of Educational Studies and Associate Professor of Education and History at the University of California, Los Angeles, Eddie R. Cole for a special lecture on “The State of the Nation: Black Struggles, Affirmative Action, and American Higher Education.”

Author of the multi-award-winning book ”The Campus Color Line: College Presidents and the Struggle for Black Freedom” (Princeton University Press, 2020), Professor Cole is a scholar of leadership, race, and social movements analyzed through the prism of higher education. His research routinely addresses systems of power, education’s impact on society, and higher education and organizational change. Utilizing extensive historical materials to demonstrate the role of higher education in influencing all aspects of American life, he leverages his research to provide solutions to the complex and nuanced challenges that have plagued society for generations.

Professor Cole’s work has been supported by Harvard’s Radcliffe Institute (where he is also a 2023-24 fellow), the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation (now the Institute for Citizens & Scholars), the Spencer Foundation, the National Academy of Education, the University of Chicago, and Princeton University.
