Music Prof. Peter Boyer’s work to be featured at Hollywood Bowl opener with rock band Journey

Claremont Graduate University Music Professor Peter Boyer’s Silver Fanfare will be featured on opening night at Southern California’s Legendary Hollywood Bowl on June 20. The composition will be performed by the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, led by its Principal Conductor, Thomas Wilkins. The headliner for the evening will be the superstar rock band Journey.

Boyer composed Silver Fanfare in 2004, originally as the first movement of the larger work On Music’s Wings, for the Pacific Symphony’s 25th anniversary. As a stand-alone opener, Silver Fanfare has been performed by orchestras including the Boston Pops, Cincinnati Pops, Nashville Symphony, and others. The work is the opening track on Boyer’s recent recording with the London Philharmonic Orchestra on the Naxos label, and has been widely broadcast by classical radio stations around the United States.

“As a long-time audience member at the Hollywood Bowl, and great admirer of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, I’m delighted and honored that they will open their season with my music,” Boyer said. “I’ve also been a big fan of the rock group Journey since I was young, and never would have imagined that my music would be on the same program with them — much less at the Hollywood Bowl. I’m also proud to have many friends and colleagues in the orchestra. This will certainly be a night to remember.”

Wilkins will also lead performances of Boyer’s New Beginnings with the Omaha Symphony in September and with the Buffalo Philharmonic in December.
