“I could see myself here and I wouldn’t be just a recipient of information. I could get involved.”

Diane Ting is a fully employed, part-time MBA student at the Drucker School. She works for Southern California Edison as a technical specialist, focusing primarily on project management and technology upgrades as the company stays abreast of the future of transmission and distribution of utilities.

Diane’s decision to pursue an MBA stemmed from a desire to further align her thinking and abilities with that of her employer. When she expressed interest in the Drucker School, she was invited to Drucker Day, an annual event dedicated to the life, work, and legacy of Peter Drucker. Diane was quickly drawn to the sense of community and excitement shared by alumni, faculty, staff, and current students. She knew that by choosing the Drucker School, her graduate school experience would be far more than just receiving a degree. She would be a part of something bigger than herself that would last a lifetime.

Perhaps the most important thing affirmed by her experience at Drucker Day was Drucker’s humanistic approach to management. As a current student, her courses create space for self-reflection, a practice that makes her more aware of her personal biases and dispositions. By understanding herself on a deeper level, Diane has been able to identify the areas she needs to improve to become a better leader.

“I like the way my professors apply concepts to real-life business situations. It helps me to understand the importance behind why we do some of things we do.”
