Part of the Claremont Evaluation Center, The Evaluators’ Institute (TEI) offers top-tier training in evaluation for professionals at every level. Through a well-balanced curriculum and expert instruction, TEI emphasizes practical, real-world applications for practicing evaluators.

One of the first entities of its kind in the world, TEI was founded by Dr. M. F. “Midge” Smith in 1996. Dr. Smith’s vision was to bring together leading experts in the field to identify the most useful evaluation content areas and deliver instruction and learning activities that enhance evaluation practice and impact. TEI continues to carry forward this vision from its home in the Claremont Evaluation Center at Claremont Graduate University.

TEI offers four professional certificates for evaluators at different stages of their careers: the Certificate of Evaluation Practice (CEP), the Advanced Certificate in Evaluation Practice (CAEP), the Certificate in Analytic Evaluation Methods (CAEM), and the Master Evaluator Certificate. The curriculum is intentionally designed to provide a meaningful learning experience for practicing professional evaluators as well as those who manage evaluation projects.

In addition to our open-enrollment courses, TEI partners with organizations to deliver customized training tailored to the needs of specific evaluation teams and units. These flexible programs are ideal for government agencies, foundations, nonprofits, and other mission-driven organizations looking to build internal evaluation capacity through practical, skills-based instruction.
