Welcome from the President of Claremont Graduate University
Dear Friends and Visitors:
For nearly 100 years, Claremont Graduate University has prepared tomorrow’s leaders to address the world’s most pressing challenges.
Our founding president, James Blaisdell, envisioned CGU as a place that would balance the powerful academic excellence of our expert faculty with the warm, intimate atmosphere of a small-school setting. Today we hold true to Dr. Blaisdell’s founding vision in our philosophy and mission.
We believe that having an impact on the world requires something important: the ability to think and to solve problems across disciplines. This transdisciplinary approach to learning without limits, borders, or boundaries is central to our identity in higher education. So, too, is our emphasis on practice-based research, which enables our students to effect real changes in the communities around them.
Since our university proudly opened its doors in 1925, CGU has provided a graduate-only experience unlike any other in the world. As we declare in our motto—multa lumina lux una—there are many bright, scholarly lamps on our campus that contribute to this incredible collective light.
We are so pleased to have you join us. Welcome.
